How does time zone conversion work?

A time zone is a region that shares the same clock time, written as an offset from UTC such as UTC+07:00. Offsets are not fixed: many countries switch to daylight saving time for part of the year, and the dates differ between the US, Europe and the southern hemisphere. This tool uses the IANA time zone database built into your browser, so a meeting at 9:00 in New York is converted with the correct rule for that exact date.

Features

  • • All 400+ IANA time zones with daylight saving time handled per date
  • • Offset, abbreviation and hour difference for every city
  • • Next day / previous day badges and working hours or night indicators
  • • Detects your own time zone and remembers your city list
  • • Copy a ready-to-paste summary for meeting invites

Runs in your browser

Conversions use your browser's built-in time zone data. Your city list is stored only in this browser and is never sent to a server.

IANA time zones, DST aware.

How to use the Timezone Converter

  1. 1

The tool starts with your own time zone and the current time. Change the date and time, or press Now to go back to the present.

  2. 2

Select the time zone the date and time refer to, for example America/New_York if a colleague proposes "10:00 New York time".

  3. 3

Add the cities you care about by typing a zone name such as Europe/Berlin or a city such as Singapore. Each row shows the local time, date, offset, abbreviation and the difference in hours.

  4. 4

Use the arrow button to make any row the new reference while keeping the same moment, and Copy summary to paste all times into a meeting invite or chat.

Practical examples

Scheduling a meeting across continents

A call at 09:00 in San Francisco is 17:00 in London and 23:00 in Ho Chi Minh City and already the next day in Tokyo. The day badges and working-hour icons show which slot is fair for everyone.

Release and maintenance windows

Pick a maintenance time at night for your users in Europe and check that it does not fall into business hours for your team in Asia.

Daylight saving changes

In March and October the gap between Europe and the US changes for a few weeks because they switch on different dates. Converting with the exact date avoids being an hour early or late.

Reading event announcements

A webinar "at 3 PM ET" or a product launch "at 10:00 CET" becomes clear once you convert it to your own zone.

Frequently asked questions

Does the converter handle daylight saving time?+

Yes. It uses the IANA time zone database in your browser and applies the rule valid on the selected date, so New York is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer.

Why use names like Europe/Paris instead of CET?+

Abbreviations are ambiguous (CST can mean US Central, China or Cuba) and do not say when daylight saving applies. IANA names identify a region and its full history of rules.

What happens to times that do not exist?+

When clocks jump forward, for example from 02:00 to 03:00, times in between do not exist locally. The converter shifts them to the nearest valid time, just like most calendars do.

Is my city list stored online?+

No. The list is saved only in this browser (localStorage) so it is there next time. Nothing is sent to a server.
