What is a URL slug?
A slug is the readable part of a URL that identifies a page, such as "how-to-build-a-rest-api" in example.com/blog/how-to-build-a-rest-api. Good slugs are short, lowercase, use hyphens between words and contain only ASCII letters and digits, which keeps links readable when shared and avoids percent-encoded characters like %C3%A9. Search engines also use the words in the URL as a small relevance signal, so a clear slug helps both users and SEO.
