What Is My IP

This is the address websites see when you connect, along with what can be inferred from it.

Your public IP address

What is a public IP address?

Your public IP address is the address that websites and online services see when you connect to them. It is assigned by your internet provider (ISP) to your router or mobile connection, and every device on the same home or office network usually shares it through NAT. An IPv4 address looks like 203.0.113.42, while an IPv6 address is longer, such as 2001:db8:85a3::8a2e:370:7334. If your network supports IPv6, browsers usually prefer it, so this page may show an IPv6 address even though you also have an IPv4 one.

What this page shows

  • • Your public IPv4 or IPv6 address with one-click copy
  • • ISP or organization, ASN and the network block your address belongs to
  • • Approximate country, region, city, coordinates and accuracy radius
  • • Time zone of the IP location compared with your browser time zone
  • • A direct link to look up any other IP address

Privacy

Your address is read from the connection only to display it back to you and is not stored. Location data comes from a local GeoLite2 database on our server, so no third-party lookup service receives your IP.

No logging, no third-party lookups.

How to use the What Is My IP

  1. 1

Open the page: your public IP address is detected automatically from the connection and shown at the top, with an IPv4 or IPv6 badge.

  2. 2

Click Copy to put the address on the clipboard, for example to whitelist it in a firewall, a database or a cloud security group.

  3. 3

Read the details below: ISP or organization, ASN, network block, approximate country, region and city, and the time zone of that location.

  4. 4

Check the time zone note: if it differs from your browser, traffic is probably leaving through a VPN, proxy or another region.

Practical examples

Allow-listing your office

Before adding a rule to an AWS security group, a MySQL user host or an admin panel allow-list, copy the exact address your office uses on the internet.

Checking that a VPN works

Connect to the VPN and reload: the IP, ISP and country should change to the VPN server. If they do not, the VPN is not routing your browser traffic.

Remote support

Give the address to a support team or a colleague who needs to grant you access or look for your requests in their server logs.

Debugging geo features

When a website shows the wrong language, currency or region, see which country your IP actually resolves to.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my IP show a different city?+

IP geolocation databases map address blocks to the place where the ISP registers or routes them. Mobile networks and large ISPs often route through a regional hub, so the city can be tens or hundreds of kilometres off.

Why do I see IPv6 and not IPv4?+

When both are available, browsers prefer IPv6 (Happy Eyeballs). You still have an IPv4 address, usually shared with other customers through NAT or CGNAT.

Does my IP address change?+

Most home and mobile connections get a dynamic address that can change when the router restarts or the lease expires. A static IP is usually a paid option from your ISP.

Can someone find my home address from my IP?+

Not from the public database: it points to the ISP or city at best. Only your ISP can link the IP to a subscriber, and usually only for a legal request.
